AMAR SINGH SETHI WRITER DIRECTOR

Amar Singh Sethi
Amar Singh Sethi is a rising British filmmaker whose storytelling combines emotional intensity with sharp explorations of contemporary social issues. His creative roots lie in music, where he won first prize in a national competition as the lead singer and producer of a Punjabi rock fusion band. That musical foundation continues to shape his rhythmically driven and emotionally textured cinematic approach.
Amar studied method acting intensively for two years in London, deepening his understanding of character, psychology, and performance—qualities that are central to his directorial style. While editing a range of South Asian TV shows and music videos, he honed his technical skills and storytelling instincts.
Following his studies at the National Film and Television School in 2021, Amar made his directorial debut with Bus Driver. This short film examines unconscious bias through a quietly devastating encounter. The film was praised for its subtlety and layered portrayal of complex social dynamics.
His second short, Sweaty Hands, critiques corporate culture through the story of a young professional whose dream job interview spirals into disillusionment. The film exposes the hidden codes of power, polish, and conformity in the modern workplace with sharp realism and dark humour.
Amar is currently in post-production on A Beautiful Day to Die, a lyrical meditation on love and loss centred on two lovers facing their final days together, furthering his commitment to emotionally resonant, human stories.
He is also developing his debut feature film, Cockroaches Don’t Drink Whisky, a gritty crime thriller that explores illegal immigration and trafficking in the UK. Inspired by personal experiences, the film investigates the corrosive effects of greed, betrayal, and moral compromise within immigrant communities.
Amar’s body of work reflects a filmmaker unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths, bringing authenticity, cultural insight, and deep empathy to his every frame.
